[Official] ADOR side says ”NewJeans” new group name contest could be a ”serious breach of contract”
HYBE's subsidiary label ADOR has revealed its position regarding the public contest for a new stage name for Korean girl group NewJeans.
On the 23rd (today), ADOR responded to an interview by Korean media regarding the public naming contest for the "NewJeans" members by saying, "ADOR has an exclusive contract.
"We believe that the decision is valid and are taking the court proceedings seriously," he said. "Before the members receive legal proceedings, we are considering holding a public contest to select a new name for the group and allowing them to continue their independent entertainment activities."
"To attempt this would be a serious breach of contract, and we regret it," he added. "NewJeans" held an emergency press conference on November 28th last year regarding the termination of its exclusive contract with ADOR.
"We will terminate our contract with ADOR at midnight on the 29th (of this month). The mistake is on HYBE and ADOR's side, so there is no reason for us to sue them or pay any penalty fees," they said.
ADOR has filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract, and before the ruling is made, NewJeans is trying to contact the advertiser on its own.
In order to prevent any attempts to do so, they have filed an application for a provisional injunction to "preserve the status of the entertainment agency and prohibit the signing of advertising contracts, etc."
After appointing the same law firm, they teased their legal response, saying, "We will clearly expose ADOR and HYBE's mistakes through legal procedures and fight bravely in court to make the truth known."
They also announced that they would not be returning to the group. They also invited fans to participate in a contest to come up with a new name for their group that is not "New Jeans."
