On the 29th, former Prime Minister Kim Boo-gyeom welcomed the Lunar New Year and emphasized, "I am confident that the New Year will be a year in which the Republic of Korea will be reborn as a powerful democratic nation."
Prime Minister Kim posted on his SNS this morning, "The new year of the Year of the Snake has begun. On the first day of the new year, 'Life is Beautiful.'
"I reaffirm the teachings of the late President Kim Dae-jung, who said, 'History develops when we are in a difficult situation.'" Prime Minister Kim wrote, "Today, we have been able to create the Republic of Korea as an economic and cultural powerhouse that the world is paying attention to.
"This was possible because of our great people, who unhesitantly donated all the money and goods they had in their closets to help us overcome the national crisis posed by the IMF," he wrote.
He continued, "You are all joyful people who have become the Red Devils and achieved the legend of making it to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
"These are the people who have revealed the colorful light of the rainbow and removed the dark shadow of the civil war," Prime Minister Kim said.
"The Republic of Korea has defended its sovereignty to the fullest. I am confident that the new year will be a year in which the Republic of Korea will be reborn as a powerful democratic nation. Life is beautiful and history progresses," he concluded.
