Air Busan flight fire: joint investigation to be carried out today... black box recovered = South Korea
The South Korean government is trying to find out the truth behind the Air Busan flight fire. According to the South Korean aviation industry on the 30th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Committee and the Busan Fire Department
The disaster headquarters will conduct a joint investigation into the fire on Air Busan Flight BX391 today and will carry out a full-scale investigation into the cause. The investigation committee will collect the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder and carry out a detailed analysis.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of the 28th at the parking lot of Gimhae Airport while the plane was departing from Busan for Hong Kong. A fire broke out from the rear of the aircraft and burned the upper part of the fuselage.
A total of 176 people, including 169 passengers and seven crew members and maintenance personnel, escaped through the emergency slide. Seven people were slightly injured during the escape, and 165 people have now returned home, with 10 foreign passengers staying in hotels.
One of them is currently in hospital for treatment. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, an on-site investigation immediately after the accident confirmed that the aircraft's two wings and engine were not damaged.
The plan is to focus the investigation on the possibility that the fire started from a battery or other item placed in the luggage rack inside the plane. However, the possibility that a short circuit in the wiring inside the aircraft may have been the cause is also not being ruled out.
The aircraft has complicated electrical wiring, and a thorough investigation of this is also required. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 29th that no suspected terrorism-related matter was found in the anti-terrorism investigation.
However, if any suspicious points are discovered during the course of future investigations, the ministry plans to conduct additional investigations jointly with relevant agencies. The ministry will also form a joint public-private inspection team and report the results of investigations into Air Busan and other airlines by the end of this month.
The government plans to conduct safety inspections of airlines from 11 countries, including low-cost carriers (LCCs), and establish comprehensive safety measures by April.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency will set up an investigation headquarters after the joint investigation and will continue to investigate the airline's alleged professional negligence resulting in injury.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has set up a central accident response headquarters at the Sejong Complex and a regional accident response headquarters at Gimhae Airport to deal with the accident.
