”Drifting” on 1.5 billion won sports grounds... School requests investigation (Korea)
During the Lunar New Year holiday this year, it was discovered that someone had driven a car onto the grounds of a middle school in Chungju, North Chungbuk, and was practicing "drifting."
The school has asked the police to investigate. Lee Jung-beom, chairman of the Chungbuk Provincial Assembly's Education Committee, said on social media on the 2nd, "During the holidays, someone may have been practicing driving on the snow-covered grounds of Chungju Middle School.
"There were traces of the earrings in every direction," he said, posting a photo of the scene. "It's a shame that only two months have passed since the grounds were renovated after a huge budget was invested.
Did he really enter the grounds without knowing about the construction that had been going on for so long?" he added. CCTV footage released by MBC on the 4th shows a deserted area on the night of Lunar New Year.
A white SUV entered the school grounds, sped up, then suddenly braked and skidded on the snow, practicing what is known as "drifting."
The car, which drove in circles with its taillights on and off, left the school grounds about five minutes later. The grounds on which the car drifted were estimated at 1.5 billion won (approximately 160 million yen).
The artificial turf field, which cost ¥100,000 to build, was reportedly unused by students as the school was on break. The school has requested a police investigation to prevent a recurrence.
Three years ago, a car entered a nearby girls' junior high school and damaged the school's natural grass field.
It is expected to take more than three years to restore the building to its former condition, but the police, who received a report from the school, have confirmed that the building was destroyed by CCTV in the area.
After analyzing the video, it was confirmed that the car was a rental car, and through the rental car company, it was discovered that the perpetrators were two men who were 20 years old at the time.
During police investigation, the two stated that they had ordered takeout from a nearby chicken restaurant and then had some time on their hands, so they drove to the school.
In order to prevent recurrence, the school has decided to demand 5 million won (approximately 530,000 yen) in compensation for the damaged artificial turf.
