China imposes additional tariffs on some U.S.-origin imports as retaliatory measure - Chinese reports

On the 4th, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council of China released the "Announcement by the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council Regarding Additional Tariffs on Certain Imports Originating in the United States."
Prior to this, on February 1, the US government imposed restrictions on all goods exported from China to the US due to issues such as fentanyl.
In response, the Chinese authorities stated that they would impose an additional 10% tariff on imported goods.
Based on the fundamental principles of law, and with the approval of the State Council, the United States announced that it will impose additional tariffs on certain imports originating from the United States from February 10, 2025.

"Additional tariffs of 10% will be imposed on machinery, large-engine automobiles, and pickup trucks," and "other U.S.-origin imports listed in the attachment will be subject to the current applicable tariff rates."
"Additional tariffs will be imposed on each product. However, the current bonded and exemption policies will remain unchanged, and the additional tariffs will not be subject to exemptions."
China said the unilateral imposition of additional tariffs by the United States violated World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
It also said the move violated international rules and would hinder normal economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States.
