Approximately 150 people from Japan's political and business circles, as well as Korean residents in Japan, participated in the event, looking back on the achievements of the past 60 years and reaffirming their commitment to developing relations between the two countries.

"This event was prepared to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Japan-Korea relations and to solidify our determination to take it to the next level," said South Korean Ambassador to Japan Park Cheol-hee.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-youl also said in a video message, "The cooperation between Korea and Japan, which share values and interests, will contribute to the peace and prosperity of not only our two countries but also the region and the world."
"It is also very important for the prosperity of our country," he said, adding, "We must pool our wisdom to reduce the range of ups and downs that the relationship between our two countries has experienced over the past 60 years and ensure unwavering development."
In a video message, Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya also said, "Relations between the two countries have improved in recent years, and cooperation and exchanges have expanded in a wide range of fields," and added, "We will continue to build on the legacy of Japan-Korea exchanges."
"Looking back, this year I would like to focus on promoting exchanges between the people of our two countries, especially the younger generations," he said. The event included a dialogue between Ambassador Park and Yoichi Funabashi, editor-in-chief of the Asahi Shimbun, and a talk by calligraphers from both countries.
The events included a performance by the artist, a string quartet featuring Japanese and Korean students, and a photo screening looking back on the 60th anniversary. The governments of Japan and Korea will hold a special event on the 15th of this month to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations.
Starting with the simultaneous lighting up of Seoul Tower and Tokyo Tower, various commemorative events will be held throughout the year, including a joint academic conference and commemorative receptions.
