A rally was held and was filled with enthusiasm. However, due to the ongoing internal conflict between the so-called “Gwanghwamun faction” and the “Yeouido faction,” the seeds of friction between conservative groups remain.
Conservative groups such as the Liberal Unification Party, led by Pastor Jeong Kwang-hoon of Sarang First Church, will hold a protest against the impeachment of President Yoon at Gwanghwamun in Seoul from 1 p.m. on the 8th.
The police closed all lanes of the road for about 700 meters from Gwanghwamun to Daehanmun. The area was filled with participants holding American and Japanese flags and the Taegeukgi.
Some participants brought their children along with them. They shouted slogans such as "Release President Yoon" and "Dismantle the Election Management Commission."
In preparation for any eventuality, police have set up iron fences at various points from Daehanmun Gate to Gwanghwamun Square.
On stage, lawyer Koo Ju-wa explained the background of the riots that occurred at the Seoul Western District Court, where Pastor Jung was accused of instigating the incident.
"In the case at the Seoul Western District Court, all the mobile phones of the 65 people who were detained have already been seized, and it has already been confirmed that there is no correlation between the two cases," he said.
"The investigation has concluded as there is no underlying relationship," he emphasized. A message from former Minister of National Defense Kim Young-hyun was also conveyed. Attorney Lee Ha-san, who is representing former Minister Kim, said, "Active military personnel
"The president, who is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, issued a state of emergency guaranteed by the Constitution, and they carried out their duties in accordance with the instructions of the chief of staff," he said. "They were faithful to the duties given to them to protect the Constitution.
"If he is charged with a political crime, the minister will take full responsibility," he said. On the same day, an "emergency prayer meeting" organized by Save Korea was held in Yeouido.
In a statement of purpose for the rally, Save Korea said, "A National Assembly controlled by the large opposition party will paralyze the executive branch, cause national chaos, and undermine the principle of a free democratic republic, the separation of powers, as enshrined in the Korean Constitution.
"They have gone beyond impeaching the president and have illegally impeached the acting president, committing an outrage never before seen in constitutional history - creating an acting president system," he said.
The rallies led by Pastor Chung are centered around Gwanghwamun, while Save Korea is based in Yeouido, so they are called the "Gwanghwamun faction" and the "Yeoido faction," respectively.
The friction between the two sides came to light after the riots at the Seoul Western District Court. Shin Hye-sik, the operator of the conservative YouTube channel "God's Move," said that Pastor Song had been harassing Pastor Jung.
The slanderous message that was allegedly sent to her was made public. The message read, "Today is the end for you. You can see it now, I'm never going to be fooled by you again."
