Discussions to set international standards for carbon-free energy have begun in earnest. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Carbon Free Coalition (CFA) announced on the 9th that the CFE, which was attended by six countries and international organizations on the 7th,
The government and industry announced that they will expand their carbon neutrality efforts, which were promoted last year with a focus on renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, to include all energy sources, including nuclear and hydrogen power.
The CFE Initiative, which aims to expand the use of carbon-free energy sources to all countries, was proposed to the international community.
The UN has launched a global working group with the United Arab Emirates, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the Clean Energy Ministers (CEM) Secretariat.
The countries and organizations attending the conference discussed the definition, standards and implementation criteria of CFE, and expressed their gratitude to the participating companies.
The two sides discussed practical plans for the spread of the CFE Initiative, including the establishment of a new government. As the government has lost its national momentum due to the martial law and impeachment, the momentum for the international spread of the CFE Initiative may also weaken.
However, as it is being promoted with the support of 20 companies and organizations led by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and 13 national and international organizations, the CFE international dissemination effort will continue regardless of domestic or political changes.
The six countries and organizations will also seek to advance related discussions at the CEM Ministers' Meeting scheduled for August 25th of this year.
"We will lay the foundation for discussion on the definition and standardization of CFE that can be used," said Jean-François Gagné, Secretary General of the Council of Clean Energy Ministers (CEM), who said, "We will work on the CEM platform.
"We welcome the invigoration of discussions during this training session and hope that the foundation for related cooperation will be strengthened in the future."
