President Yoon: ”I have decided to declare martial law because I believe the country is in crisis” - South Korea

South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol met with ruling party lawmakers on the 10th and said, "The declaration of emergency martial law was made possible by the president's judgment that 'the country is facing various crises.'"
"Everything was done within the procedures and scope of the constitution," he said. Rep. Kim Ki-hyun of the ruling party was arrested by President Yoon at Seoul Detention Center from 11 a.m. on the same day.
After the meeting, Rep. Kim conveyed President Yoon's remarks to reporters as above. "I told him that many Koreans sympathize with the circumstances that forced the president to declare martial law," he said.
"(After listening to President Yoon's explanation) we felt that it was a very reasonable procedure," he said. President Yoon also said, "The people, especially the young people, have a strong sense of being the masters of the country.
"I am happy to hear that," he said, adding, "If the party sincerely supports the awareness and movement of 'protecting freedom and restoring sovereignty,' I believe it will become a party that is loved by the people."
