Will the trial speed for the Yun Seok-yeol rebellion case be increased? The court in charge will not be taking on new cases for the time being (South Korea)
The courts that handled the cases involving President Yoon Seok-yeol and former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, as well as those suspected of insurrection, will not be taking on new cases for the time being.
According to legal circles on the 11th, the Seoul Central District Court has decided to suspend the assignment of new cases to the 25th Criminal Division after assigning President Yoon's case to the division. The period of suspension has not been disclosed.
This is based on Supreme Court precedent that allows a court to request a suspension of the allocation of new cases when a centralized hearing is necessary.
He is in charge of the Yeong-ryong case, as well as the cases of former Defense Minister Kim, National Police Agency Commissioner General Cho Ji-ho, and former Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner General Kim Bong-sik engaged in important duties during the civil war.
The same court is also handling the cases of former Defense Intelligence Commander and former member of the Military Police Chief of the 3rd Field Army Command, Colonel Kim Young-geun.
So far, all the cases of people suspected of insurrection that have been handed over to the Seoul Central District Court have been assigned to the same court. The court is considering whether to hold a centralized or joint hearing of these cases.
With this in mind, the court has decided not to take on any new cases for the time being, and attention is focused on whether this will speed up the process.
