What are the top 5 collaboration songs with SM Entertainment singers selected by the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the CEO of SM Classics?
Before I knew it, my repertoire had grown. Two genres that play in completely different "languages" met, and we overcame many obstacles. By understanding each other's "grammar," we were able to introduce a new genre to the world.
At one point it took six months to arrange each song, but before he knew it, he was releasing one song every two to three months, opening up a new world of collaborative composition to classical music arrangements.
The five-year collaboration between SM Entertainment and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra has produced two results.
World" and two industry firsts, "SM CLASSICS LIVE 2025 with" at the Seoul Arts Center on the 14th and Lotte Concert Hall on the 15th.
The concert is being held by the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. In the run-up to the concert, I met with SM Classics CEO Moon Jung-jae and other staff members, along with Wayne of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
Vice-principal Lin (violin), principal second violin Im Ga-jin, and orchestra members Jang Sun-ah (flute), Jeong Su-eun (bassoon), and Kim Mi-yeon select the top five collaborative pieces of all time.
1. "Into The New World" by Girls' Generation It was an overwhelming choice. It was the debut song of the second generation K-pop group Girls' Generation and was a hit all over the world.
It is a song of hope for MZ (Millennials and Generation Z, born between the 1980s and 2000s) that reverberates in the music scene.

This piece was selected by Vice-Kapital Director Lin and Kim Mi-yeon. The arrangement was by Lee Kwang-il, Jeong Ji-won, and Choi Hyuk-ryol, and features Edward Elgar's March.
The song was sampled from "Majestic." Moon Jung-jae, the company's CEO, said, "The harmony and instrument arrangement are majestic, the melody is tear-jerking, and it blends well with the music video."
" The music video tells a story with the symbolism of the song. It shows Girls' Generation from their debut to the present, the members of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra performing, and their individual personalities.
The image of students chasing their dreams blends together. Associate Music Director Wayne Lin says, "The story and the music in the music video are in perfect harmony."
Kim Mi-yeon also named this song as the "best song." "The charm of K-POP and classical music is maximized, and it's a hit song," she said.
"It's a more attractive song because you can hear both the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the SM sound," he said, "When the many members divided the singing melody into an orchestral performance, each piece of music could be heard.
"It's a song that lets you feel the original flow of music. If you play it like background music, it has the power to let you touch the music itself."
"Feel My Rhythm" by Velvet. This song was selected by Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra member Jang Sun Ah and all the staff of SM Classics. Lee Kwang Il and Jo In Woo
He was in charge of arranging the piece. The original song originally sampled Bach's "Air on the G String," so it was a piece that classical performers could more easily approach.
Jang Sun Ah said, "The song was arranged to make the most of each instrument's part and tone. It not only takes advantage of the characteristics, range, and strengths of each instrument, but also the 'F
"The song came out so well that I think the understanding of the song, 'Eel My Rhythm', is also very high," he said. In particular, this song will be performed by the Seoul Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra when they hold a riverside concert in 2023.
They performed it as an encore and received a huge cheer. Chang said, "The atmosphere and reaction was great when we performed it, so it's a song that the members enjoy playing."
"Psycho" by Velvet was selected by Moon Jung-jae, CEO of SM Classics, and the staff of SM Classics. This song is especially famous for the sampling of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2.
The song was created based on the idea of Moon Jung-jae. The arrangement was done by Kang Sang-eon, Kang Han-mae, and Kim Yong-san.
Kim Nam-young, head of A&R at CLASSICS, said, "When I heard about the idea of sampling Rachmaninoff's symphonies, I strongly opposed it and said, 'That's not right.'
However, the results were so good that I decided to follow the CEO's advice unconditionally," he said with a laugh.
"We're also creating an opportunity for K-pop fans to listen to classics by linking the songs that sample Chic to the music site Melon," he said.
"Red Flavor" by "Velvet" is the first collaboration song between SM Classics and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2020, and is a symbolic song.
Selected by Jeong Su-eun, head of the Gajin choir, the piece was arranged by Park In-young, a composer who is a member of the Academy of Music and the music director for the film "Parasite."
Jeong Su-eun, a member of the group, said, "It's a really good song," and Lim Ga-jin, the head of the group, said, "The light-hearted arrangement and the bright atmosphere of the music video go together well."
The song, which broke down the boundaries between the sexes, has since been used as a study video in elementary schools across the country and is a standard selection during lunchtime broadcasts.
"Mamba" was selected by SM Classics CEO Moon Jung-jae. Composers Kang Han-mae, Lee Kwang-il, and Jo In-woo co-arranged the song.
He said, "It's a completely different arrangement from the existing 'Black Mamba', but even though we're merging with the orchestra, it's still a 'Black Mamba'.
"It's a song that really captures the feel of 'Mamba' and modern music."
