Former Go player Lee Sedol becomes professor at Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea)
The Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) recently announced that former Go player Lee Sedol has been appointed as a special professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Starting in the first semester in March, a joint lecture with Professor Lee Kang-soo of the Department of Mechanical Engineering titled "Making a Board Game for Scientists with Professor Lee Sedol" will be held.
Professor Lee Sedol will share his experience of creating a board game based on the game of Go with the students, who will then have a year to create the finished product and receive advice from the professor.
"I want to share with students the experience of combining scientific thinking and creativity through board games," he said. The appointment ceremony is scheduled for the 20th. Also, on the 24th, a training session with AI will be held for 500 first-year students.
He will give a special lecture on his experience playing Go. UNIST President Park Jeong-rae said, "Collaboration with Professor Lee Sedol will provide students with a new way of thinking.
"I hope that this idea will inject new energy into our research and education," he said. Prior to this, Professor Lee Sedol competed against Google's AI program AlphaGo in 2016.
The team won one race, proving the potential for collaboration between humans and AI.
