Democratic Party's approval rating ”leaves behind” ruling party - South Korean opinion poll
The results of a public opinion poll announced on the 21st showed that the approval rating of South Korea's largest opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea (Democratic Party), has widened the gap with the ruling party, the People Power Party.
The survey was conducted by the Korean polling organization "Gallup Korea" on the 18th to 20th of this month, targeting 1,002 men and women aged 18 or older.
According to a survey of party approval ratings conducted in the third week of February, the Democratic Party was ranked at 40% and the ruling party at 34%. The approval ratings of both parties were 24% higher than in a survey conducted in the third week of December last year (48% for the Democratic Party and 24% for the ruling party).
The gap in points widened, and from the second week of January onwards, the two were in a close race, with each competing for the top spot, but this survey recorded the largest gap since the survey in the third week of December.
Regarding this, Gallup Korea said, "The approval rating of the Democratic Party rose by 2 percentage points compared to the previous week's survey, while the ruling party's approval rating fell by 5 percentage points."
The results are in the range of a close race. The next most popular are the Fatherland Reform Party (3%), the New Reform Party (2%), and the Progressive Party (1%), while independents made up 18% of the total.
Meanwhile, in the survey on "who is suitable to be a future president," Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung came in first with 34%. Lee's approval rating was the same as in the previous survey.
In second place was Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, who dropped 3 percentage points to 9 percent. He was followed by Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo at 5 percent and Oh Se-il at 6 percent.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and former ruling party leader Han Dong-hoon came in at 2% each.
