According to JTBC on the 27th, the defendant Choi (30s), the head of a taekwondo center in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, who threw a four-year-old boy, Park, into a mat and killed him in July last year, was arrested in June last year.
It was revealed that another 4-year-old boy, Choi, had also been pushed into the mat in the same day. Choi's father said at the time, "I tried to push my child into the mat by shaking him repeatedly, trying to get him in by any means possible."
He explained the situation: "Choi was trapped in the hole in the mat for nearly two hours, and fortunately he was released from the mat without any physical injuries, but he still has emotional scars."
Then, one month later in July, Choi wrapped up Choi's friend Park and pushed him upside down onto a mat that had been set up, leaving him there for 27 minutes until he died.
The moment that a doctor from the hospital in the same building as the Taekwondo dojo performed CPR, what the defendant Choi quickly did was to delete the CCTV footage from inside the dojo.
However, when the police retrieved the deleted CCTV footage, they found that Park and Choi were not the only children abused by the defendant. According to the indictment, there were 24 other children.
The victim was physically abused and slapped on the cheek. Defendant Choi, who was arrested and indicted on charges of child abuse and murder, is currently undergoing a first trial. In December last year, the prosecution announced that Choi should be sentenced to life imprisonment.
During the investigation and trial, the defendant Choi showed no remorse, upsetting the family. Choi maintained that it was a simple prank, and that the family had discussed the matter with the medical staff.
He then pointed out that the doctors had discontinued life-sustaining treatment, and shifted the responsibility for Park's death to his parents, saying, "It was the family that removed the respirator when he was brain dead."
Defendant Choi submitted nine letters of apology to the court, but in them he repeatedly claimed that his actions were an expression of affection and a prank.
It was reported that he did.
