South Korea develops cosmetics using Antarctic microbes to combat skin changes caused by climate change

Cosmax Group, which is engaged in research and development (R&D) and ODM (original design and manufacturing) of cosmetics, is collaborating with the Polar Research Institute of the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology to develop a "Polar Microorganism Resource Project"
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the "excavation of Antarctic microorganisms for cosmetic materials and development of cosmetic ingredients." Going forward, the two companies will conduct research on the excavation of Antarctic microorganisms that can be used as cosmetic ingredients, research on the polar environment and skin microbiome,
The company will develop biotechnology using local microorganisms and cooperate in commercializing the results of the project. Cosmax is working to address the growing demand for technology that can withstand extreme environments in light of recent rapid climate change.
Since skin is also affected by climate change, he decided to use the strong vitality of microorganisms that live in polar regions as his research subject.
Polar microorganisms survive under the influence of low temperatures, dryness, high salinity, strong ultraviolet rays, and nutrient deficiencies.
The researchers hope that by utilizing these characteristics, they can develop substances with a variety of benefits.
The company plans to develop products targeted at countries with extreme cold and other severe climate conditions. Cosmax is conducting research into microorganisms that live in various places, including the human body and soil.
They say they have already secured more than 3,000 species of microorganisms.
