US Navy aircraft carrier arrives in Busan for the first time since Trump took office

The USS Yi Jisoo (CVN), the cruiser USS Princeton, and the destroyer USS Starlet arrived at the Busan Naval Base in South Korea that afternoon.
This will be the first time a U.S. aircraft carrier has arrived in port in about eight months since the USS Roosevelt in June last year.
The US Navy's CVN 1414 also arrived at the Busan Naval Base in November 2023. In particular, this will be the first time that a US aircraft carrier has arrived in South Korea since the inauguration of the Donald Trump administration.
"This will be carried out to substantially implement the administration's reaffirmed commitment to permanent and ironclad expansion restraint," he said, demonstrating the robust joint defense posture of the U.S.-ROK alliance and strengthening the interoperability of U.S.-ROK combined forces.
The USS Carl Vinson (CVN) is the third Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in the United States. It will carry F-35C stealth fighter jets and F/A-18 Super Hornets.
It is equipped with more than 80 aircraft, including fighter jets, E-2C Hawkeye early warning aircraft, EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft, MH-60S Seahawk maritime operation HYERI copter, and other aircraft.
The number of personnel is about 5,500. Brigadier General Lee Nam-kyu, chief of the South Korean Naval Command's Maritime Operations Headquarters, said, "Our military will strongly punish any provocations by North Korea. The U.S.-South Korea alliance is in a critical condition."
"We will support peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region through a close cooperation system," he said. The USS Carl Vinson (CVN) will leave the Busan Naval Operating Base and conduct drills near the Korean Peninsula this month.
The US aircraft carrier is expected to take part in a joint maritime exercise with Japan, the US and South Korea, which is expected to be held in the near future. With the growing threat of North Korea's nuclear missiles, the visit of a US aircraft carrier to South Korea will have the effect of sending a strong warning message to North Korea.
