In the past, when small businesses used public institutions to take legal action to resolve disputes, it could take months or even years. This put a heavy burden on them both in terms of time and mental stress.
The council is made up of seven members. Its chairperson is Professor Hwang Tae-hee of the Faculty of Law at Sungshin Women's University. Other members include Professor Jang Ji-hee of the law firm Faww.
Participants include lawyer Jeong-ju, Secretary General of the Korea Federation of Hotel Industry Kim Jin-woo, and Professor Park Jong-woo of the Department of Business Administration at Ewha Womans University.
The Association of Accommodation Businesses will act as the council's auditor and handle the overall practical aspects of the operation. Chair Hwang Tae-hee said of the council, "The issues that arise between accommodation platform operators and the businesses that use them will be addressed.
"This will be a window for quick and flexible resolution of any disputes that may arise," he said. Park Sun Ho, chairman of the Korea Internet Business Association, also said, "We will work to mediate disputes and promote sustainable development."
"We will focus on creating a diverse accommodation platform industry."
