Police have applied for an arrest warrant for a man in his 30s who murdered a woman he did not know in Seocheon, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea.
On the 3rd, Seocheon Police Station announced that it had applied for an arrest warrant for a man in his 30s, Mr. A, on suspicion of murder.
Mr. A is suspected of encountering a woman in her 40s, Ms. B, while walking on a sidewalk in Sayok-ri, Seocheon-gun in the early hours of the previous day, and stabbing her multiple times with a weapon he was carrying, killing her.
As for Mr. B, at around 11:56 p.m. on the 2nd of this month, a call was made to 112 from his family saying, "He went out to exercise and never came home."
The police then launched a search, but Mr. B was found dead in a vacant lot near the sidewalk at around 3:45 a.m. on the same day. There were no security cameras nearby.
Police identified the suspect from security camera footage in a nearby shopping district, tracked his movements, and made an emergency arrest of Mr. A at his residence in Seocheon County on the morning of the 3rd.
Mr. A, who had never met Mr. B, said, "Recently, I was scammed and lost a lot of money. I was suffering from stress and I felt like I was the worst person in the world.
"It was painful that they didn't seem to be helping me," he told police, "I went out into the street with the murder weapon, and as soon as I found Mr. B I stabbed him, killing him."
Police believe that Mr. A was planning the crime, based on the fact that he was wandering the streets with the murder weapon and looking for a target.
We are also considering disclosing Mr. A's identity information.
