It was revealed what prompted Dongjin (Park Jin Young) to once again swear that she would prove that she was not a witch.
In order to prove that the series of incidents and accidents that occurred in Taebaek were not related to Mijeong,
Dongjin entered the university with a degree in statistics. For his life homework, which he had to solve using statistics, he wrote a report denying the existence of witches. Dongjin intended to show the report to Mijung.
And because Mi-jeong was good at studying, he wanted her to take the college entrance exam, so he even worked part-time jobs during the semester to buy her some textbooks and online course tickets.
However, when he returned to Taebaek for the holidays, Mi-jeong had already left the village. A male student came to visit Mi-jeong to console her for the death of Jeong-soo (Ahn Nae Sang).
Mi-jeong was seriously injured in an encounter with a lion, and the villagers became increasingly anxious, so they asked her to leave the village. Dong-jin's mother, Mi-sook (Jang Hye-jin), also told her this.
When Mi-jung agreed with the rumors that she was a witch, Dong-jin presented statistics and angrily said it was just a coincidence. He wanted to say that Mi-jung was not a witch, but delayed again.
Unable to do so any longer, Dongjin realized his unrequited love for Mijung in a house where she had already left, and shed sad tears.
I thought that was the end of it, but after the class started, Professor Jeongsik of the Department of Statistics
(Jin Seong Kyu (INFINITE)) called Dongjin and pointed out the report. He had already decided that she was not a witch, and said that his report, which compiled statistics, was full of mistakes.
In response, Dongjin steadily verified the questions on the checklist given by Jeongsik from the beginning. It was to prove that Mijeong was not a witch, but Dongjin was certain
The more I admitted it, the more I was faced with an inconvenient truth. The only thing that all the incidents and accidents that I thought were just coincidences had in common was Mi-jeong. Whether Mi-jeong was really a witch or not,
It was clear to him that the two were connected in this case, but he was unable to find a way to prove it, and once again suffered a bitter setback.
After graduating from university, Dongjin joined a company run by his senior colleague as a data miner.
In the midst of her ordinary daily life, the sudden news of her mother's illness reminded Mijung of the past, which she had forgotten. Dongjin went to a real estate agency to sort out the store as Misook's illness rapidly worsened, but
He learns that her mother bought Mi-jung's house and field. Later, Mi-jung confesses the truth about that day, which is shocking: it was her mother who drove her out of her hometown.
Mi-sook heard rumors that Mi-jeong was a "witch" who was seducing the boys in the neighborhood, and was shocked to see a photo of her in the drawer of her son's room. Then, her own son was also injured.
She was worried that she might become like the dead boy, so she went to Mi-jeong's house with other mothers from the neighborhood. However, Mi-sook, who was filled with strong emotions, came to Mi-jeong's house.
What struck me was the sight of Mi-jeong, who was wounded and cowering. On the one hand, I felt sorry for her as she bowed her head and said she was leaving the village.
When Mi-jeong, who had nowhere to go, left the village, a sense of guilt settled in the back of Mi-sook's mind.
He also bought her house and field, which no one else wanted to buy or sell. He tried to apologize and ask her to return to the village when they met, using the contract as an excuse, but Mi-jeong never showed up.
Even as she was about to die, this still lingered as a resentment, and she asked Dongjin, "If you ever meet that child, please tell him that I'm sorry on behalf of his mother."
After his mother's funeral, Dong-jin was sorting through her belongings when he found something he had forgotten. The books and reports he had left at Mi-jeong's house during his student days.
Mi-sook brought it back and had been keeping it safe. Mi-sook couldn't even read Dong-jin's report, so she couldn't understand what he was saying.
The place was covered in fingerprints. Mi-sook believed Dong-jin's inaccurate statistics that Mi-jung was not a witch.
