On the 17th, a poll was released stating that if early presidential elections were held in South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, would win more than half of the votes against conservative candidates.
The poll was conducted by the polling organization Realmeter on the 12th to 14th of this month, targeting 1,510 voters aged 18 and over.

In a one-on-one matchup with Kim Moon-soo, the Minister of Employment and Labor, Lee won 51.7% and 30.7%, respectively, a 21.0% point difference.
In the contest between Lee and Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo, the numbers were 52.3% and 25.0%, respectively, a difference of 27.3 percentage points.
The race between Lee and former ruling party leader Han Dong-hoon received 51.8% and 18.6%, respectively, a difference of 33.2 percentage points.
When asked who was the most suitable candidate for the next presidential election, "Representative Lee" came in first with 46.9%.
This was followed by Minister of Employment and Labor Kim (18.1%), Mayor Hong (6.5%) and former Chairman Han (6.3%).
In the survey on "Favourability of the ruling party in the next presidential election", 55.5% answered "A change of government by the opposition party" and 10.4% answered "A change of government by the ruling party".
The answer "extension of the administration" was tallied at 40.0%. In the party approval rating survey, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded 44.3% and the ruling party recorded 39.0%.
This is followed by the Fatherland Reform Party (3.3%), the New Reform Party (1.5%), the Progressive Party (0.7%), etc.
Parties accounted for 2.7% of the vote, while independents accounted for 8.8%.
