「日中韓外交長官会議」今月22日日東京で開催
”Japan-China-Korea Diplomatic Ministers' Meeting” to be held in Tokyo on the 22nd of this month
South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-youl will visit Japan from March 21 to 22 to attend the 11th Japan-China-ROK Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
On the 18th, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lee Jae Woo said, "Minister Cho will meet with the Japanese side on Friday the 21st.
"He will attend an official welcome dinner hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and on Saturday, the 22nd, he will hold the 11th Japan-China-ROK Foreign Ministers' Meeting together with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China."
The Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting has been held regularly since the first one was held on Jeju Island in June 2007, until the 10th meeting in November 2023.
At the meeting, the foreign ministers of the three countries reviewed the progress of trilateral cooperation since the 9th Japan-China-ROK Trilateral Summit held in May last year and discussed the direction of future development of trilateral cooperation.
The two leaders plan to exchange views on a wide range of topics, including regional and international affairs, as well as on the security and economic situation in the region after the inauguration of the second term of the US administration of Donald Trump.
It is expected that such issues will be discussed. In addition, schedules are expected to be adjusted ahead of the Japan-China-South Korea summit. In May last year, the leaders of Japan and South Korea and Chinese Premier Li Qiang held regular meetings,
The three countries agreed to promote cooperation between the two countries. This conference will also serve as a catalyst for bilateral talks between Japan, South Korea, and China. In particular, the issue of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to South Korea was also on the agenda at the China-South Korea foreign ministers' meeting.
The trade war is expected to continue for a while, and is drawing attention. South Korea will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju in November. China will be the APEC chair next year,
The two countries have expressed their support for cooperation to ensure the success of APEC. Prior to this, South Korean National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik also visited China in February and requested President Xi to visit South Korea. President Xi responded favorably.
If President Xi's visit to South Korea is realized, it will be his first visit in 11 years since July 2014. He is also scheduled to meet with Japan to review the progress of joint projects marking the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea.
