US FDA suspends sale of Korean frozen oysters after cases of norovirus infection
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a notice of norovirus infection notification following an outbreak of cases in which people have developed symptoms of infection after consuming frozen oysters produced in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.
According to local media, the FDA sent a letter to restaurants and wholesalers instructing them to "stop selling and handling frozen oysters from Korea."
The agency also advised American consumers not to eat frozen oysters produced in South Korea. The products in question were oysters harvested in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, and were frozen at the time of harvest.
The recall took place on January 30 and February 4 of last year. The current recall was implemented after a report was made to the FDA on the 7th of this month in California, where the oysters were first distributed.
