The Democratic Party of Korea is in deep trouble...Late-night leadership meeting discusses impeachment of Acting President Choi (South Korea)
South Korea's largest opposition party, the Democratic Party of Korea, decided on the 19th to leave the final decision on the impeachment of Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Strategy and Finance, who is acting president, to the party leadership.
Kang Yu-jeong, the party's floor spokesperson, told reporters this after a general assembly of lawmakers held at the National Assembly that night. "We will discuss whether or not to impeach Choi, as well as other measures," she said.
"There were various discussions about this issue," he said, adding, "We will collect all opinions and decide what to do at the next Senate leadership meeting."
At the general assembly, there were apparently divided opinions on whether to impeach Choi.
The leadership met after the end of the general assembly and continued the late-night meeting. Prior to this, the party had dismissed Choi, claiming that not appointing Ma Eun-hyuk, a candidate for constitutional justice, constituted dereliction of duty.
He hinted at the possibility of impeaching the acting president.
