The cryptocurrency payments sector accounted for 1.5%, while other spending such as healthcare and entertainment accounted for 1.5%. The average cryptocurrency payment size measured in USD terms was $8.36.
Oobit analyzed that the spread of cryptocurrency payments has been made possible by the government's efforts to regulate and the growing acceptance of digital assets in the EU. However, 92% of payments are in USDT.
This is being done through cryptocurrency exchanges, which could potentially violate the MiCA regulation, the EU's proposed cryptocurrency regulation that became fully effective on December 30, 2024.
Additionally, crypto usage in the Central, North and Western Europe (CNWE) region grew 44% year-over-year.
The report found that the region's stablecoin market is growing 2.5 times faster than North America, especially for transactions below $1 million.
