”NewJeans (NJZ)” finally announces suspension of activities... ”We respect the court's decision”

The members of the group NewJeans (NJZ) have announced that they will suspend their activities for the time being.

On the afternoon of the 23rd, the members of ‘NewJeans’ went on stage at ‘Complexcon’ held at the Hong Kong Asia World Expo and performed new songs and solo performances. This was their first official appearance after the court's approval of their application for a provisional injunction, and the ‘NewJeans’ members performed without mentioning the team names ‘NewJeans’ and ‘NJZ’.

The stage was also unveiled for a new song. The initials of the five members were shown in order as if playing a mine-hunting game on the screen, and the stage of the new song ‘PIT STOP’ was performed for the first time. The audience enjoyed the stage, shaking the penlights of ‘NewJeans’ and calling out ‘NJZ’, while the members of ‘NewJeans’ looked at their fans with bright smiles and passionate stage performances.

After performing a new song, the members of ‘NewJeans’ said, "It seems that today's stage will be our last stage for a while" and announced that they have decided to stop their activities for a while in respect of the court's decision.

They continued, "We are mentally tired and suffering a lot, but believe in protecting ourselves, so we have no regrets" and added, "So that we can come back as a united group."

The members of ‘NewJeans’ expressed their wish that "I hope you know that it's not the end" and that they would "definitely come back and when we do, I hope to see you again with a really bright smile on my face."

The Seoul Central District Court's 50th Civil Agreement Division (Chief Judge Kim Sang-hoon) granted ADOR's application for a provisional injunction against the five ‘NewJeans’ members for ‘preservation of planning company status and prohibition of advertising contracts, etc.’ on the 21st.

The court, based on Supreme Court precedent, decided that the exclusive contract between the contracting parties can be terminated if the relationship of mutual trust between them is broken, but that the person claiming the termination of the contractual relationship has the burden of proving which circumstances make it difficult to maintain the contractual relationship at the same time.

The members of ‘NewJeans’ stated on 22nd (local time) through Time magazine in the US that they do not expect the K-pop industry's problems to be turned upside down overnight and that "compared to what we have experienced so far, this is just another stage in our journey." They continued, "Perhaps this is the present and reality of Korea. This is why I believe we need to change and grow" and drew attention to his statement that “Korea seems to be making us revolutionaries.”

The members of ‘NewJeans’ also stated, "We are planning to deal with additional issues through the process of defining the significance of the decision on the provisional disposition, and in the process, we plan to supplement the proving documents to the maximum extent possible" and added, "Above all, the members only performed their contract in good faith until the time of termination of the exclusive contract and there is no fact that they have committed any offence. On the other hand, ADOR and HYBE behind it have continuously discriminated against the members and ruined their trust, and the truth will be clearly revealed only in a matter of time."

ADOR stated that "the status of the NewJeans agency has been legally confirmed, and we will do our best to support the artists in the future" and "we ask that you send warm support and encouragement to the NewJeans as they grow again with ADOR."
