A minivan jumped up and a motorcycle fell off the road... The scene of the road collapse in Seoul
A video showing the situation at the time of a massive road collapse that occurred at an intersection near Daemyung Elementary School in Gangdong-gu, Seoul has been released.
At 6:29 pm on the 24th, a road collapse occurred at an intersection near Daemyung Elementary School in Myeongil-dong, Gangdong-gu. The hole was 20 meters long and 10 meters wide.
The road is estimated to be 18 meters wide and 30 meters deep, with four of the six lanes collapsing.
According to the video, a minivan traveling on the road suddenly entered a hole, causing the rear tire to get caught and jump up. However, the motorcycle following behind did not slow down.
The woman in her 40s who was driving the minivan was injured and taken to the hospital, but the driver of the motorcycle was buried under the rubble and it is unclear whether he was dead or alive.
The driver of the motorcycle was identified as a man in his 30s. Fire department officials have been working for over 14 hours but have yet to find the driver.
The reasons for this include the inflow of a large amount of soil and water, the muddy environment caused by the soil and water mixing, and cracks near the hole. Fire authorities said, "Around 1:37 a.m. on the 25th, we found the mobile phone of the person to be rescued.
After confirming that it was his, he handed it over to him," the department said, adding, "The bike was found at around 3:30 a.m. with the license plate removed."
Fire officials believe that the road collapsed due to a water pipe burst. The extension work for subway Line 9 is underway near the accident site.
