Hong Jun-pyo, mayor of Daegu, South Korea, commented, "I'm sorry, but I'm sorry" about the acquittal of Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, on charges of violating the Public Offices Election Act in the second trial.
"I don't know if it will be a success, but it will be easier for us to run for president against a criminal who has been indicted on various charges."
Mayor Hong wrote on Facebook on the 27th, "It would have been better if we hadn't let Representative Lee go."
"It's a shame that even the judiciary is trying people based on 'campaign logic,' but that's the reality of the judiciary, and there's nothing we can do about it," he said.
He continued, "The Democratic Party of Korea has fallen into the quagmire of 'Lee Jae-myung.' If they change their way of thinking, a new path will open up. Instead of relying on judges to run for the presidential election, they should trust the people.
"I think the right attitude for a politician to take is to run in the next presidential election with that in mind," he added.
