Hyundai Motor Group is building a smart factory in Georgia called "Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America" (HMG Metaplant America), ahead of the 40th anniversary of its entry into the U.S. market in 2026.
The group announced that it has completed construction of its new Kia Motors Alabama plant in 2005 and the Kia Georgia plant that began operations in 2009. This marks the first new plant in the U.S. in 16 years.
The site covers an area of 11.76 million square meters. It will house the manufacturing platform tested and developed by the Hyundai Mobis Global Innovation Centre, Singapore (HMGICS), as well as parts manufacturer Hyundai Mobis.
The company is a consolidation of the technological capabilities of group companies such as Hyundai Steel, a steel company, and Hyundai Steel. The current annual production capacity is 300,000 units, but it plans to increase this to 500,000 units in the future. In addition to electric vehicles (EVs),
The plant also produces hybrid vehicles (HVs). It is characterized by the application of innovative technology at every key stage of the automobile production process, from pressing to painting and assembly.
The facility will also introduce automatic door attachment and detachment devices, which will realize efficient production while reducing the burden on workers. The facility will also use hydrogen mobility, with 21 hydrogen fuel cell trucks used to transport parts and finished cars.
Through the hydrogen business brand "HTWO," the company will expand its business both in Korea and overseas.
