チョ・グク前祖国革新党代表
Cho Kuk, former head of the Fatherland Reform Party, said, ”I was happy that Lee Jae-myung, head of the Democratic Party of Korea, was found not guilty. I respect the court.” ... Letter from prison released (South Korea)
In a letter from prison, former Fatherland Reform Party Chairman Cho Kuk wrote, "I was as happy as a first-person when I heard the news that Democratic Party Chairman Lee Jae-myung was found not guilty in the appeal trial for election law violations.
The Fatherland Reform Party made this announcement on the 28th in a letter that Cho had written from his prison on the 26th and sent to the party.
"I would like to express my respect to the appellate court that handed down an acquittal to Lee," Cho said in the letter.
"The chairman has had to endure tremendous pain due to the prosecutors' targeted investigation and casting net indictments. There are not many people who can truly understand such pain," he wrote.
He continued, "I'm planning to defeat Yoon Seo, who is my rival in the presidential election and the most likely candidate for the next presidential election as the leader of the opposition party.
The Yoon Seok-yeol administration's use of the knife was relentless and brutal. The far-right and conservative vested interests, including the People Power Party, joined forces with the prosecution to attack and curse Chairman Lee, and on December 3rd
"The rebellious forces have made Lee a target for 'removal.'" He added, "With this appeals court ruling, the 'judicial risk' of Lee in the presidential election following President Yoon's impeachment has disappeared. If this acquittal is overturned by the Supreme Court,
"This is because other trials being conducted through 'cast-net indictment' also take a long time before a first-instance verdict is handed down," he argued.
In particular, former Chairman Cho said, "I will take the opportunity of Chairman Lee's acquittal to file charges of publishing false facts.
"Political battles must be resolved through politics, not through criminal law," Cho said.
The fate of the case is primarily in the hands of the prosecution. And it will be decided by which court it is heard in.
"The prosecution system, which did not allow a single prosecutor to attend the trial, sent around 10 prosecutors to the trial of Lee. Once the civil war is over, we must carry out prosecutorial reform," he added.
In December last year, Cho was sentenced to two years in prison for his child's entrance exam fraud and for covering up the Blue House's inspection, and is currently incarcerated in Seoul Detention Center.
After going through the classification process, he has been serving his sentence at Seoul Nambu Prison since January.
