Over 700 new domains including ai.kr registered, with large companies eager to acquire them - South Korea

The Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA), the domain management agency, will begin accepting new third-level domains starting March 5th, including ai.kr, it.kr, me.kr, and io.kr.
The new domain name was registered at the same time. It has been 22 years since the last kr domain was created. Companies that have registered the new domain include major companies from various fields such as Naver, Hyundai-Kia Motors, and Lotte Construction.
These include SK Telecom (SKT), a major telecommunications company, which registered adot.ai.kr, and Kakao, which registered kakao.ai.kr and kakao.it.kr.
The reason Korean companies are actively registering new domains is due to the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and the importance of website addresses that users can intuitively recognize.

A total of 828 domains were registered. ai.kr had the most with 260, followed by it.kr (208). A total of 774 domains were actually registered.
Lee Jung-min, head of the Internet Address Policy Team at KISA, said the reason so many new domains were registered was because "they are conducting related businesses amid the AI boom.
"Perhaps a company or an individual decided they needed a domain that could express their identity."
