Petition for ”Kim Soohyeon Prevention Law” also filed... ”The age of application for non-consensual intercourse should be raised to 19” = Korea

As the family of the late Kim Sae Ron (25), a South Korean actor, and his wife Kim Soo-hyeon (37), are engaged in a battle over the truth regarding the allegations of underage dating, the age at which non-consensual sexual intercourse with minors can be committed has been raised.
A petition for the National Diet to ask for public consent was posted, calling for the age limit to be raised from the current 16 years old to 19 years old. On the 31st of last month, one petitioner wrote, "The age for non-consensual sexual intercourse with minors should be raised and the penalties strengthened.
The bill, the so-called 'Kim Soo-hyeon Prevention Act,' was published, and it states, "The current age limit for non-consensual sexual intercourse with minors, which only protects children aged 13 to 16, should be increased to 13 to 19 years old."
"We want the sentence to be increased to 100% and the punishment to be strengthened," the petitioner said.
"Unfortunately, the crime of non-consensual sexual intercourse with a minor only protects those aged 13 to 16, so Kim Soo-hyeon cannot be punished legally.
"Although the law of the Republic of Korea clearly defines minors as those up to 18 years old and protects them, the age limit for non-consensual sexual intercourse only protects minors between the ages of 13 and 16.
"These restrictions have allowed a paedophile to escape punishment after seducing and deceiving a promising young actress from an early age, leading to her death."
The petitioner said, "I want to prevent this from happening again in the future.
The petition, titled "The Law to Amend the Crime of Non-Consent Sexual Intercourse with Minors," states that the age of relevance for non-consent sexual intercourse with minors should be raised to between 13 and 19 years of age, and the punishment should be increased to 20% for indecent assault.
A petition was filed in 2016 calling for the sentence for sexual assault to be increased to five years or more in prison. As of 7:30 a.m. on the 1st, one day after it was posted, the number of people who had signed the petition had exceeded 8,785.
If more than 50,000 people agree to the petition within 30 days, it will be sent to the relevant Diet committee, which will then consider the bill and potentially bring it to the plenary session.
