The legal team representing President Yoon Seok-yeol also expressed their view that the allegations were false. Rep. Joo Jin-woo, chairman of the People's Power Legal Advisory Committee, told reporters on the day:
In a public announcement, the People Power Legal Advisory Committee said, "We will take strong legal action, including filing criminal charges, against Chairman Lee Jae-myung for spreading false facts."
This was announced after Lee attended the 77th anniversary April 3rd Victims Memorial Ceremony held in Jeju on the morning of the same day, when he told reporters,
The December 3rd Guard military coup plan included a plan to massacre 5,000 to 10,000 people."
Ju said, "When the emergency law was declared, Representative Lee falsely stated that 'there was a plan to massacre 10,000 people.'
"This is a clearly false fact that has not been confirmed anywhere in the investigation or the national affairs investigation process," he said.
The dissemination of false information is deemed to be a malicious attempt to overturn the decision to dismiss the impeachment case. This is a direct denial of democratic procedures and the rule of law, and an act of dividing the nation with false facts.
"We cannot sit idly by and watch this happen," he explained. President Yoon's legal team also criticized the move, saying, "This is a story that was not even mentioned in the prosecution's appeal document. It is an outrageous lie that is being used for extreme incitement and propaganda."
In a statement, the delegation claimed, "This is an attempt to lure extremist supporters to the square even by using lies. This is an attempt to incite civil unrest and provoke riots."
He added, "Chairman Lee must immediately correct and apologize for his false incitement. He will take appropriate action against the dissemination of obviously false facts.
"We are issuing a stern warning that we will take legal responsibility for any actions that may be taken," he added.
