On the 8th, the 33rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court decided to hold hearings on the 13th and 27th of next month for the Daejang-dong, Wire, Baekhyun-dong, and Seongnam FC cases involving Lee.
Lee's lawyer asked the court to remove the 27th as a trial date, saying, "The 27th is the presidential election campaign period, so please remove it. It's just a few days before the presidential election."
When the prosecution expressed its opinion that the trial should proceed, Lee's side repeatedly stated, "The presidential election is not simply a matter of the individual defendant."
In response to a question from the court about the exact schedule, Lee's side said, "It hasn't been decided yet. There are many events, including various debates and the election itself, that need to be announced to the public.
The court then said, "Once a specific date has been decided, submit the relevant materials to the court and obtain prior permission if necessary," and set the date as planned.
Meanwhile, at the regular Cabinet meeting held on the same day, the government decided to set June 3 as the date for the 21st presidential election, which will be held following the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol.
As a result, candidate registration took place on May 10th and 11th, and the official election campaign period was from May 12th to June 2nd, the day before the election.
