Argentine Congress authorizes investigation of senior officials linked to presidential ”LIBRA scandal”

In February, the Argentine Chamber of Deputies announced that Javier Milley, who was embroiled in controversy over the Libra meme coin scandal, would be the first to be elected.
The Assembly approved the formation of a special committee to investigate senior officials in the administration of President Milei.
On the 8th (local time), the Argentine Congress held a meeting on the same day to investigate the Libra scandal.
The government passed three resolutions to officially establish a special investigative committee. The scandal began when the price of the coin crashed immediately after President Milley promoted it through X's account, and many
"It's time for Congress to monitor whether there have been any victims in Argentina," said opposition lawmaker Pablo Juliano.
"We are committed to the truth," he stressed. The proposal to form a special investigative committee was passed with 128 votes in favor, 93 against, and 7 abstentions.

The move comes about two months after the company touted its meme coin Libra as a "private project for economic recovery through the growth of startups." The coin had a market capitalization of $4.5 billion at one point.
The price soared, but then crashed by nearly 90% in just a few hours. Immediately after the market crashed, President Milley deleted the promotional post he had posted on X and explained that he "did not know the details of the project."
They were subsequently indicted in an Argentine criminal court on fraud charges, with some 75,000 people estimated to have lost a total of more than $250 million.
