Lee Jae Myung ”Declares Candidacy” ... ”I want to be a tool to build a real Republic of Korea” = South Korea
On the 10th, Lee Jae-myung, the former head of the Democratic Party of Korea, declared that he would run for president. Lee said, "I want to build a real Republic of Korea, not a Republic of Korea in name only."
"I want to be a great tool, the best tool, for the Republic of Korea," he said. In a video announcing his candidacy for the presidential election, which was posted on YouTube on the same day, Lee said, "I want to be a great tool, the best tool for the Republic of Korea."
"It has a really big meaning," he said, "A country of ordinary people wearing white clothes, a small but great country, a world where many people have hope and dream of living happily, a truly great country."
On the same day, Lee declared his candidacy for the presidential election, setting forth the goals of "economic growth" and "prosperous living" through pragmatism and speed.
"The winter was so deep and long, but in the end, the people are breaking through that winter and coming out," Lee said. "Just as the winter was so deep, the spring will be warmer.
"I want to make this a day where people can make a living," said Lee. Lee said the root cause of the current fierce conflict and disputes is "the economy." He said, "The fundamental cause of the intensifying conflict and disputes is the 'difficulty in making a living.'
"The reason why things have become more difficult even though people have become wealthier is because of bias. So-called polarization, inequality, and disparity have become too large.
"As a result, society as a whole has become more prosperous than it was in the past, but when you look at each of these things individually, that wealth has been concentrated in one place."
He continued, "It is difficult for the economy to be maintained and developed through the private sector alone.
"The role of the economy is important, but the government has neglected the economy for the past three years," Lee said. "Politics is about deciding the lives of the people on the ground," he said.
He stressed the need for pragmatism, saying, "The highest standard must be, 'What is needed? What is needed?'
