"Dream High" is a hit TV series that was broadcast on KBS in Korea in 2011.
Based on the novel "Music High," this is a new type of stage play that combines a show and a musical, which premiered in Korea in 2023. While it is being performed in both Japan and Korea, the three members SE7EN, JINJIN (
The three Korean cast members, ASTRO and DONG WOO (INFINITE), will also appear in the Japanese version in the same roles.
Masahiko Kondo, who plays the role of Yok, said, "I have nothing but regrets. I will go home today and study the areas where I felt I was lacking and give it my all tomorrow (April 11th)."
Regarding the atmosphere on set, he said, "The Korean people are cute, manly, sometimes they're like little brothers and sometimes they're like big brothers. They're all very caring.
I'm studying really hard. I'm memorizing the lines in Japanese and singing in Japanese. If we went to Korea and we were asked to learn Korean, what would you do?"
When the question was posed to Kawasaki Masayo, who played the role of K (the rank is normally higher than the rank of Ka), she replied with a strong "Of course," but then muttered, "I can't do it...," drawing laughter from the audience. Kondo responded, "That's how difficult it is.
" Kohei Otomo, who plays the role of the principal, said, "There are a lot of lines and a lot of unexpected choreography, so it's a lot of work. But everyone was really
"The teamwork is great, and I'm inspired by the courage of the young people, and I want to live each day to the fullest," he said, talking about the friendly atmosphere at the rehearsal site. Hasegawa Hatsunori, who is in the double cast, commented, "(
"The principal is said to be a villain, but I have never thought of myself as a villain," Otomo Kohei responded, "Humans have a dark side. I think only Hasegawa could play this character."
"I don't know," Hasegawa said, laughing, "We're the same age, so we laughed about things we saw or heard in elementary school, and the people around us didn't know anything about it (laughs)," and Otomo replied, "No one could keep up with me."
JINJIN, who played the role of Jason in the original Korean performance in 2023, will appear in both Japan and Korea as Song Sam-dong this time.
When asked about acting in Japanese, he said, "I participated in the 2023 drama as Jason, but I was worried about how to act as Samdong this time. The best thing about it was that
I saw Samdong from Lee Seong, so it was helpful to see not only Samdong's gaze, but also that of his friends. So I made an effort to express various aspects of the character.
Although it is in Japanese, it is a musical that everyone works together to create, so I am very happy," he said with a smile. When asked about the appeal of musicals, he said, "I hope that many people will feel that way.
I think that people who can't dance will become better at dancing, and people who can't sing will be able to sing. I think that this is a work that will make people who have lost their dreams chase their dreams again.
I think it's a work that everyone can enjoy." When asked about scenes to look out for, Shouta Aoi, who plays the role of Samdong, said, "There are so many scenes to look out for, but the scenes
- Because it's a musical, each person's performance is great, and the songs are wonderful too. There are triple and double casts, and the combinations vary depending on the day.
Yes. I think that once you see it, you will want to see more, so I hope you will come and see one person a day.
There will be a special curtain call, so I hope everyone will come and see it." The special curtain call will feature the cast members who will be performing on the day and the Korean cast members who will be performing in the Japanese tour.
When asked about his enthusiasm for the work, JINJIN replied in Japanese, "I will study Japanese more. Thank you," and then in Korean, "I'm looking forward to working on the work Dream High."
I think the reason I decided to appear in this play again is because it is a story about dreams. I think everyone has at least one dream, so I hope that everyone will have some kind of dream when they come to the theater.
I think so. I look forward to working with you." Shouta Aoi said, "S E7EN, DONG WOO, and JINJIN are coming to Japan and will be saying their lines and singing in Japanese, so I'm really happy.
I am very happy and delighted. JINJIN is a very creative person, and even during rehearsals he took the initiative to give us various ideas.
As the actor playing Mudon, I think that once "actual" starts, I won't be able to see SE7EN and Jinjin for long. I hope that everyone who watches the show will appreciate the fleeting nature of the stage.
We will do our best to make sure we can deliver that dream to you all. We will all dance and sing with all our might to make you smile, so please support us," she said enthusiastically.
When asked about the teamwork, JINJIN replied, "I think it's the dreams. Whether it's the principal or the students, everyone has their own dreams, and they come together with those dreams in mind.
"It's also a place where we pursue the truth, so I think we were able to work as a team across borders," he said. SE7EN also went to an izakaya with the cast and staff.
When asked about acting with Seto Toshiki, who plays Samdong's rival, and Dong Woo, Jinjin said, "It was my first time acting with Seto.
"When I saw them, their gazes were so strong that I was surprised (laughs)," he said, continuing, "I always felt that everyone wanted to help me, so I tried not to cause any trouble to everyone.
I'm working hard on it. After I memorized Seto-san's lines, I did a reading with him, and it was great to see that he was saying his lines from the bottom of his heart. Then, with DONG WOO-san,
I've been acting with him since the premiere of Dream High, and just looking into his eyes makes me smile. So, I think when Dong Woo steps onto the stage in Actual, everyone will be in for a treat."
When he said "It's a joke" in Japanese, the venue was filled with laughter. [Performance details] ■Performance dates: April 11th (Friday) - April 27th (Sunday) ■Venue Theater H
