[Event Report] SHOW×MUSICAL ”Dream High” Japanese and Korean casts come together. JINJIN (ASTRO)'s Japanese lines are perfect! Performances start in Japan and Korea on 4/11!
On April 10th, a public dress rehearsal and joint press conference for the SHOW×MUSICAL "Dream High," which will be performed from April 11th to 27th, was held at Theater H in Tokyo. JI
NJIN (ASTRO), Riki Seto, Riku Hirano, Ourin, Masahiko Kondo, Mayo Kawasaki (originally ranked higher than Ka), Kohei Otomo, Tsubasa Takizawa, Yuta Higuchi, Yui Asato, Rika Mizukoshi, MAHIRO
(BUGVEL), MINATO (BUGVEL), Shouta Aoi, Tetsuya Bessho, Yuki Tokunaga, and Hatsunori Hasegawa took the stage.
"Dream High" is a hit TV series that was broadcast on KBS in Korea in 2011.
Based on the novel "Musical High," this is a new type of stage production that combines a show and a musical, which premiered in Korea in 2023. While it is being performed in both Japan and Korea, SE7EN, JINJIN (AST
The three Korean actors, Kang Oh Hyuk (R.O.), and DONG WOO (INFINITE), will also appear in the Japanese version in the same roles.
Kondo Masahiko, who plays the role of the character, said, "I have nothing but regrets. I will go home today and study the areas where I feel I was lacking again, and do my best tomorrow (April 11)."
Regarding the atmosphere, "Korean people can be cute, manly, sometimes they're like younger brothers and sometimes they're like older brothers. They're all very formal. They're desperate to work hard.
It's a learning experience. I learned the lines in Japanese and sang in Japanese. If we went to Korea and were asked to learn Korean, what would you do, Asayo?" said Ma Doo-sik.
When the question was posed to Mayo Kawasaki, she replied "Of course," but then muttered, "I can't do it...," drawing laughter from the audience. Kondo expressed his respect for the Korean cast, saying, "They are doing something that is that difficult."
Kohei Otomo, who plays the role of the principal, said, "There are a lot of lines and unexpected choreography, so it's overwhelming. But everyone has really good teamwork, and the young
I've gained a lot of courage and I'm going to live each and every day," he said, talking about the friendly atmosphere at the rehearsal site. Hasegawa Hatsunori, who is in the double cast, said, "(The principal) is said to be a villain.
"But I've never thought of myself as a villain," Otomo Kohei interjected, "Humans have a dark side, after all. Only Hasegawa can fully portray that."
"We're the same age, so we laughed at things we saw or heard in elementary school, and we had no idea what other people thought," he said with a laugh, and Otomo also commented, "We were in a world just for the two of us, and no one could keep up with us."
JINJIN, who played the role of Jason in the original Korean production in 2023, will appear in both the Japanese and Korean productions as Song Samdong.
When asked about his thoughts on the role, he said, "I participated in the drama as Jason in 2023, but I was worried about how to play the role of Samdong this time. The best part was that I could see Samdong from Jason's perspective.
So, I learned a lot from the perspective of not only Samdong but also the friends around him. So I tried to express myself in a variety of ways.
I'm very happy because it's a musical that we all work on together in perfect harmony," he said with a smile. When asked about the appeal of musicals, he said, "I think many people have felt that way, but the dance is great.
People who couldn't dance will become better at dancing, and people who couldn't sing will be able to sing. I think this is a work that will make people who have lost their dreams chase their dreams again.
When asked about scenes to look out for, Shouta Aoi, who plays the role of Samdong, said, "There are endless scenes to look out for, but since it's a show musical, each person has their own unique
The performances are great, and the songs are wonderful. There are triple and double casts, and the combinations vary depending on the day. Once you see it, you'll be hooked.
I think there are things like that that will make you want to see more, so I hope you will come and see one person a day. There will be a special curtain call on the 14th.
So I hope everyone will come and see it." For the special curtain call, the cast members who will be performing on the day and the Korean cast members who will be performing in the Japanese tour will gather together.
When asked about his enthusiasm for the work, JINJIN replied in Japanese, "I will study Japanese more. Thank you," and then in Korean, "I want to appear in a work called Dream High again.
I think the reason I decided to perform this play is because it is a story about dreams. I think everyone has at least one dream, so I hope that everyone will have some kind of dream when they come to the theater.
I look forward to working with you all." Shouta Aoi said, "I'm so happy that SE7EN, DONG WOO, and JINJIN came to Japan and spoke their lines and sang in Japanese.
I am very happy. Jinjin is a very creative person, and even during rehearsals he took the initiative to give us various ideas. As we all worked together to create the role of Samdong,
I don't think I'll be able to see SE7EN and JINJIN for long once "actual" starts. I'd like to thank everyone who watches and appreciates the transience of the stage.
"I will do my best to deliver this dream to everyone. We will all dance and sing with all our might to make everyone smile, so please support us," she said enthusiastically.
When asked about their good teamwork, JINJIN replied, "I think it's a dream. Principals and students alike, each of us has our own dreams, and we come together with those dreams in mind.
"It's a role that chases dreams, but also a role that chases the truth, so I think we were able to work as a team across borders," he said.
When asked about working with Seto Toshiki, who plays Samdong's rival, and Dongwoo, Jinjin said, "Seto Toshiki and Dongwoo are good friends.
When I acted with Tono for the first time, his gaze was so strong that I was surprised (in Japanese) (laughs)." He continued, "I felt everyone's gaze wanting to help me every time, so I was confused by everyone.
I'm trying my best not to confuse people. After I memorized Seto-san's lines, I did a reading with him, and it was good to see that he was saying them from the bottom of his heart.
I've been performing with DONG WOO since the premiere of Dream High, and I can't help but smile just by looking at his eyes. So, I thought that if DONG WOO actually stood on the stage, everyone would be in big trouble.
"I think so," he said, and when he added in Japanese, "I'm just kidding," the audience burst into laughter. [Performance details] ■Performance dates: April 11 (Fri) - April 27 (Sun) ■Venue: Theater H
