Citizens and experts conduct intensive safety inspections of 651 marine and fishery facilities over two months

Starting from the 14th of this month, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will be conducting intensive safety inspections of 651 marine and fisheries facilities, including ports, fishing ports, and passenger ships, for a period of two months.
This inspection will involve not only private sector experts but also the general public to enhance the expertise and transparency of the inspection.
They plan to use various specialized equipment to carry out detailed inspections of blind spots that are difficult to check during routine inspections. In particular, the "National Safety Inspectors," who were selected through public recruitment in March of this year, will be conducting direct inspections of coastal passengers by experts.
In addition, emergency evacuation drills will be conducted with the participation of passengers at multipurpose facilities such as international passenger ships and maritime museums, and on-site opinions from visitors and facility management staff will be reflected.
The issues pointed out this time will be evaluated for risk, and if large-scale maintenance or reinforcement is required based on the principle of "immediate correction," a detailed safety diagnosis will be carried out and an emergency maintenance budget will be allocated.
Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyun said, "We will carefully monitor potential safety threats and do our best to create an ocean that the public can use with peace of mind. We will take this opportunity to prevent the recurrence of disasters."
