Police search presidential office and residence village... Compulsory investigation into former President Yoon in full swing = South Korea
Police have launched a compulsory investigation into former President Yoon Seok-yeol, 12 days after his impeachment. In January, Yoon was accused of ordering the National Guard to obstruct the execution of an arrest warrant for him.
The police's special martial law investigation team began executing search warrants on the 16th at the presidential office and the residence village. The investigation is being carried out on charges of obstruction of justice by President Yoon and Kim Sung-Hoon, deputy chief of the security service.
The phone server related to the allegations, the presidential security service office, and the residence of the chief of the security service are being searched. President Yoon was arrested in January this year in the process of executing an arrest warrant by the High-Ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency and the police.
He is accused of ordering the Security Service to obstruct the investigation. He is also accused of ordering the deletion of records from the confidential phone server. Police applied for an arrest warrant for Kim last month, and Yoon, former deputy chief of the Security Service, was arrested.
The president is accused of being the main accomplice. The targets of the search are the CCTV footage of the presidential office in connection with the alleged insurrection of Lee Sang Min, former Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The police have previously attempted to search the presidential office, but were unable to do so due to refusals from the security service. Currently, the police have presented search warrants for the presidential office and other facilities.
Police have reportedly applied for search warrants three times to check the CCTV and phone servers at the Presidential Security House in connection with the former minister's alleged sedition, but none of them have been found.
It was revealed that the investigation did not result in any charges being filed.
