A Japanese professional golfer has become the first player to win a KPGA Tour seed through the qualifying tournament of the KPGA (Korea Professional Golf Association) Tour.
That person is Shotaro Wada (29). Shotaro Wada tied for 33rd place in the "KPGA Tour Qualifying Tournament" last year and qualified for the 2025 KPGA Tour.
Wada Shotaro will be playing at Lavie estbelle Golf & Country Club in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province from the 17th.
In the first round of the "20th DB Sompo PROMY OPEN" (total prize money of 1 billion won/approximately 100 million yen) held at the resort, he finished in 20th place, 3 strokes behind the leader.
Shotaro Wada is a former member of the Fukuoka Prefecture Golf Association and started playing golf at the age of 9. He discovered golf by chance while on a family trip to Hawaii, and started to develop a dream of becoming a professional golfer.
Shotaro Wada, who turned professional in 2013, has been playing mainly on the ACN Tour, a lower-level tour of the JPGA, since 2014.
He has won the "CHALLENGE 2016 DEUX RESIA MANSION GOLF TOURNAMENT".
He will compete on the regular tour in 2017, 2019, and 2020-2021. His best result to date is fourth place in the 2021 Golf Partner Pro-Am Tournament.
Thailand. Shotaro Wada said, "First of all, I'm happy to be able to play on the KPGA Tour this year and compete with Korean players. I heard about the KPGA Tour through other players and acquaintances.
"I decided to take the KPGA Tour qualifying test because I wanted to play in Korea full-time," he explained. He continued, "I heard that the courses on the KPGA Tour are quite challenging and have many difficult courses.
"I've been doing weight training and practicing rounds to prepare properly," he said. Shotaro Wada's goal this season is to win his first KPGA Tour title.
On the other hand, the Japanese players who have the right to participate in the KPGA Tour this season are Shotaro Wada, Takashi Ogiso,
(28), and Noriaki Hirata (25).
