Korean Disabled People Association resumes subway ride demonstration during arrivals-to-work hours for the first time in a year... Line 4 delayed (South Korea)
On the 21st, the National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against the Disabled (NSD) resumed a demonstration on boarding the subway during arrivals-to-work hours for the first time in about a year. The NSD held a demonstration at 8 a.m. today at Hyehwa Station on Seoul Subway Line 4.
The 62nd protest against riding the subway during hours when people arrive at work began on the platform heading towards Dongdaemun. The protest, which began on December 3, 2021, has been held a total of 61 times, with the last one being on April 8 last year.
Although Seoul Transportation Corporation staff blocked the way ahead, some protesters tried to board the train at around 8:45 a.m., causing chaos on the platform.
The participants repeatedly shouted "Get out!" and clashed with police and Seoul Metropolitan Transportation Bureau officials.
The subway doors are not closing as the train is about to depart, causing delays. For the past year, the All Japan Federation of Disabled People has stopped its subway ride demonstrations during arrivals-to-work hours and is holding demonstrations lying down on the platform to urge the National Diet to enact legislation for the rights of people with disabilities.
They held protests such as die-ins (demonstrations in which participants lie down as if dead), but as their demands were not met they resumed protests on the subway.
On the 15th, the Korean Federation of Disabled People issued a statement saying, "If Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun really wants to accompany the vulnerable,
"If that is the case, we should make clear our intention to resolve the issue through dialogue before the 62nd subway ride demonstration," he said. "More than 3,000 disabled people are housed in facilities for the disabled under the jurisdiction of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, but
"They have never apologized for robbing the lives of the victims," he said.
Suspension of additional activity support hours in Seoul and reduction of 389 people (suspension of 341 people and reduction of 48 people), ▲Distortion of the right to deinstitutionalize, ▲Implementation of the proposed abolition of the Seoul City deinstitutionalization support ordinance, ▲To the National Federation of Disabled People
After arriving at National Assembly Station, the Korean Federation of Disabled People moved to the National Assembly building and held a press conference titled "Information of the Political Parties on Disability Rights Policies."
A ceremony is planned to be held.
