A man pretends to pay with his ID card instead of a credit card... 11th robbery at an unmanned store in South Korea
A man in his 30s who regularly stole goods from unmanned stores in South Korea was arrested by police. On the 23rd, Incheon Yeonsu Police Station arrested a man in his 30s, A, on suspicion of theft and referred him to the prosecution.
A is suspected of stealing frozen foods, snacks, and other items worth 100,000 won from an unmanned store in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, over a period of 11 days between the 24th of last month and the 4th of this month.
An investigation revealed that the perpetrators had been inserting their ID cards, rather than credit cards, into payment terminals at unmanned stores and acting as if they were making payments.
After inserting his credit card into the terminal, A canceled the transaction or inserted the card in the opposite direction, so that the card would not be caught on the security camera.
A had been committing crimes repeatedly while living near the unmanned store, and was arrested on the 15th by the police, who had launched an investigation after receiving a report.
During police investigation, A stated that he "stole to make a living." A had previously been sentenced to prison for theft.
A police official said, "We are detaining the suspect, taking into consideration the possibility of him reoffending and the risk of him fleeing.
"We decided to do that," he said.
