On the 7th (local time), Stripe announced that its platform users will be able to send, receive, and hold US dollar-based stablecoin balances just like a traditional bank account.
According to the document, the account will be used to hold Circle's USDC and Bridge's USDB stablecoins.
Stripe acquired Bridge in October 2024. The service will be available in 100 countries, including Argentina, Chile, Turkey, Colombia and Peru.
Stripe's stablecoin accounts are expected to be available in more than 10,000 countries. Stablecoins are gaining attention as a means of storing value in developing countries that suffer from high prices, capital controls and a lack of financial infrastructure.
Blockchain-based remittances can simplify fees and authentication procedures, and can be easily achieved by using smartphones, cryptocurrency wallets, and internet access.
Stripe has already started accepting USD-based stablecoin payments at its online stores since October 2024.
At the time, demand for stablecoin payments was growing in 70 countries.
