電子部品製造のATUMが船舶用部品メーカーを買収、船舶関連部品の製造・供給へ
Electronic parts manufacturer ATUM acquires marine parts manufacturer to manufacture and supply marine-related parts
It has been revealed that electronic parts manufacturer ATUM will be making a full-scale entry into the shipbuilding industry through the acquisition of DST, a manufacturer of marine engine parts.
DST is a partner of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, a major shipbuilding company, and HD Hyundai Marine Solutions, which handles ship parts. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is involved in the engine cylinder module business.
The company also supplies connecting rods to HD Hyundai Marine Solutions, and bearings and valves to STX Engine, a manufacturer of marine engines.
In the shipbuilding industry, the demand for eco-friendly ships such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers has been increasing rapidly in recent years due to the strengthening of environmental regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The company is demonstrating its technological capabilities in high-value-added ships such as NG carriers and large container ships. Through the acquisition of DST, Etam is aiming to improve profits as well as expand its supply of transformers for high-value-added ships.
The company plans to expand sales, and as DST already has HD Hyundai Group as a client, it expects supply to be easy.
An Etam official said, "We plan to start supplying transformers for electric vehicles (EVs) in 2025.
"In addition to this, we were considering new business ventures, and the shipbuilding industry seemed to have the most promising growth potential, so we decided to acquire DST."
