South Korea's ruling party: ”Democratic Party, give up your dream of a 'judicial dictatorship'”
On the 14th, South Korea's ruling party, the People Power Party, criticized the criminal law amendment bill proposed by the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPJ), saying that it is "legislation that will shackle the judiciary" and that "they should give up their dreams of a dictatorship."
A spokesman for the ruling party's Central Election Strategy Committee said in a statement on the same day, "The Democratic Party lawmakers included provisions to punish the actions of judges, prosecutors and judicial police officers.
"I proposed a bill to amend the Criminal Code," he said.
The spokesman said, "This appears to be a threat that if a ruling is made that does not go along with the Democratic Party's wishes, we will punish them.
"They are working hard to lay the foundations to make their 'father,' candidate Lee Jae-myung, the 'leader,'" he said, "and are declaring a dictatorship that has 'no regard for democracy,' and 'avoiding investigations.'"
"It's like he's declaring, 'I'll do what I want, even in court.'" He continued, "Even if candidate Lee wins the presidential election, he will be convicted of violating the Public Offices Election Act, which will result in a 'three-day reign.'"
"The people are scared of the possibility of the Democratic Party breaking all kinds of laws in a battle of loyalty to candidate Lee, and the public is lamenting that the party is like an organized crime group."
That's the reason," he criticized.
