On the 15th, a source from Hwang Jung-eum's agency Y-ONE Entertainment told eDaily, "We are confirming the details."
News 1 reported that on the same day, Judge Im Jae-nam, head of the 2nd Criminal Division of the Jeju District Court, held the first trial for actress Hwang Jung-eum's alleged violation of the Act on Aggravated Punishment for Specific Economic Crimes (embezzlement).
According to the report, Hwang Jung-eum was indicted at home on suspicion of receiving 700 million won out of the funds her planning company received as a loan in early 2022 and investing it in crypto assets under the name of temporary payment, and embezzling over 4.34 billion won of company funds by December 2022, including this amount. She was indicted at home.
The affected planning company is a family corporation in which Hwang Jung-eum owns 100% of the equity. Hwang Jung-eum invested about 4.2 billion won of the embezzled amount in crypto assets, and he admitted the indictment at his trial on the same day.
At the trial, Hwang Jung-eum's defense attorney explained, "The defendant invested in crypto assets with the idea of trying to grow the company, and the corporation was unable to hold the coins and temporarily invested in his name, which led to this incident."
They continued, "Please take into consideration the fact that he sold the crypto assets to repay part of the damage and sold the real estate to repay the rest, as well as his motive for committing the crime."
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-eum recently divorced Lee Young-dong, a businessman who used to be a professional golfer, and appeared on a variety show to show her daily life after the divorce.
