<Interview> ”BTS” JIN, ”Echo” release... ”I'm really grateful to Sin Se Gyeong”
BTS' JIN's second mini album "Echo" will be released worldwide at 1 p.m. on the 16th.
While the previous work "Happy" focused on bringing happiness to people, "Echo
" is a more frank and deeply relatable work. You and me, us, love and friendship, and the crossroads of choice we face in our daily lives. JIN portrays emotions, situations, and everyday situations that everyone will experience at least once.
He captured life from his unique perspective and expressed it in seven songs. The title song is "Don't Say You Love
Even in a situation where their relationship is falling apart, they continue to support each other because of their love.
The song sings about the contradiction of being unable to let go of someone. Although it deals with dual feelings about love, the melody and JIN's vocals sound simple and delicate. Below is a Q&A with JIN. Q.
How do you feel about making a comeback after six months with your second mini album "Echo"? You've been appearing on variety shows a lot recently, but your main job is as a singer, so you want to show off your singing and performance.
I had a strong desire to show it to my fans. Of course, that doesn't mean I didn't want to take a break. But I continued to work energetically because of that desire.
I'm very happy to be able to show everyone my side as "SingingJIN" through this mini album "Echo". Q.
What is the composition of the album and why did you choose the title song "Don't Say You Love Me"?
The album is composed of songs that are easy to perform at concerts, without any genre restrictions.
But I wanted the title song to be an easy-to-listen-to song more than anything. "Don't Say You Love"
"Me" has a slower tempo than the other songs on the record, but I'm sure it will be the most relaxing to listen to. Q. Any behind-the-scenes stories about writing the lyrics for the songs on the record?
I tend to write lyrics while listening to songs and maintaining the feeling that comes to me. When I was writing "Travel with Clouds," I watched a lot of anime.
When I was writing "Without Your Love," I pictured myself performing at a concert venue. Maybe that's why I often felt emotional while writing this song.
I was so overwhelmed with emotion that my throat got clogged and I couldn't sing for a while.
How was it working with actress Sin Se Gyeong in the music video for "Me"?
It was my first time acting alongside an actress, so I felt very awkward and unfamiliar with it. As my tension increased, things didn't go as well as I had imagined.
I'm really grateful to Ng Se Kyung. If you look closely, you might even see me acting awkward (laughs). Q. What are your memories of filming the music video?
On the day we shot the scene in the parking lot, the wind was really strong. My hair got so messed up that I couldn't act. In the end, unlike the original plan, I had to change my hair style.
This was a shoot that changed the style. I personally feel satisfied that I was able to show a fresh image. Q.
What was the most memorable echo moment recently?
Last April, I attended Coldplay's concert in Korea as a guest, and the audience singing along that day had a big impact on me.
I hope I have the opportunity to do that too. Q. Any stories with Coldplay? When I heard that Coldplay was going to perform in Korea, I thought I wanted to perform with them again.
I was thinking about how I was feeling, and thankfully, we were able to communicate our feelings. As expected of our senior (laughs). During the world tour, he carried around the character doll "Utt" that I had given him as a present.
I thought he must have been exposed to rain and experienced many hardships, so I gave him a new pair of boots. Q.
Besides your music career, why are you also active in variety shows?
I wanted to show my face to my fans early and often. I wanted to hide my charm, but everything was revealed through variety shows.
(laughs) Q. How do you want this album to reach the listeners? I like music that warms my heart. I hope that my new album will warm my heart as much as it did me.
I would be happy if many people could feel the same way while listening to BAM. I would be even happier if people could listen to it while imagining what it would be like at a live concert.
