A series of knife attacks by Chinese in southern Gyeonggi Province... Anxiety grows among citizens = South Korea
In the southern Gyeonggi region of South Korea, a series of knife-wielding incidents by Chinese people have been occurring, causing fear among local residents. Police authorities are stepping up their vigilance.
At around 9:34 a.m. on the 19th, a Chinese man in his 50s, Mr. A, stabbed a female store owner in her 60s with a knife at a convenience store in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung-si, and fled the scene.
He was seriously injured and is currently hospitalized for treatment. Mr. A continued to commit crimes while on the run. At around 1:21 pm on the same day, a man in his 70s was killed in a sports park about 2 kilometers from the scene of the first crime.
The man was also deeply wounded in the abdomen and taken to the hospital. According to police investigations, two unidentified bodies were discovered at Mr. A's home and its surrounding area at around 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on the same day.
Police are investigating whether Mr. A may have been involved in these incidents. Meanwhile, at around 4 a.m. on the same day, a man in his 40s was killed on a restaurant deck near Dongtan Lake Park in Dongtan 2 New Town, Hwaseong City.
B, a Chinese national, attacked five men and women in their twenties who were drinking alcohol with a knife. While the victims fled, B chased one of the men, who ran into the store and blocked the entrance.
After a brief standoff, Mr. B fled on a scooter. The police issued an emergency deployment (Code Zero) order and arrested Mr. B near the scene about 30 minutes later, at around 4:39 a.m.
At the time of his arrest, Mr. B was drunk and had three knives in his possession. Furthermore, on the previous day, at around 11 a.m. on the 18th, a Chinese man in his 50s, Mr. C, was brandishing a knife on the street in Cheongjeom-dong, Hwaseong City.
He was arrested on the spot for stealing a bottle of coke from a restaurant, then brandished a knife in the air on the street, but fortunately no one was injured.
In response to a series of knife attacks by Chinese people, police have stepped up vigilance. Siheung City has sent an emergency disaster email to residents.
He called on people to refrain from going out and to ensure their safety.
