US Department of Justice launches investigation into Coinbase hack

The US Department of Justice recently launched an investigation into the hacking of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.

Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal said the company is "working with domestic and international law enforcement authorities, including our legal department, to pursue criminal charges against the company."
"I support this," he said. Coinbase was hacked last week by an internal employee who stole users' names, email addresses, phone numbers and other personal information. However, passwords, private keys and assets were not disclosed.
It turns out that no money was stolen, and the hackers demanded $20 million from Coinbase in exchange for not releasing user information.
