Democratic Party of Korea ”bans statements about easy or overwhelming victory”... Wary of optimism about presidential election = South Korea
On the 20th, the Democratic Party of Korea issued a warning against optimism about the presidential election to be held on June 3. It has urged members of the election camp to be especially careful with their words and actions, forbidding them from making statements such as "easy win" or "landslide victory."
Park Chan-dae, standing election committee chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, sent an email and SNS message to camp members on the same day saying, "I will not talk about the predicted vote percentage in speeches, interviews, or broadcasts.
"We will prohibit any statements about the election results, such as 'easy victory' or 'landslide victory,'" Chairman Park said. "Hasty optimism will only lead to a drop in voter turnout, and arrogance will only lead to a backlash. We will remain urgent and humble until the very end.
"I would like you to humbly sue them," he wrote. He also said, "Please be especially careful with your words and actions so as not to make any inappropriate remarks," and emphasized that in the event of a violation, the company will hold them accountable through disciplinary measures.
According to various opinion polls, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, is up against Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party (ruling party).
Although the results show that he is leading candidate Moon Suh-in by a double-digit percentage difference, he is cautioning against optimism, as he believes that if he becomes complacent about his favorable rating, he cannot be sure of winning the presidential election.
Jeong Joon-ho, head of the National Election Strategy Committee, told Fei Suk, "(Some media outlets) are stimulating the public's sense of crisis by claiming that Lee Jae-myung received 60% of the votes, and are trying to provoke public opinion.
"The essence of the (conservative) crisis is not the vote share but former President Yoon Seok-yeol," he said.
Former lawmaker Kim Byung-wook said, "The election results will not be known until the end.
I will listen to the situation on the ground until the very end and do my best with the mindset of uniting the people," he said. Prior to this, candidate Lee also held a press conference in Cheonju, North Jeolla Province on the 16th.
After a meeting with Korean traditional musicians in Jeonju, he told reporters, "They say that in golf and elections, if you hold your head up, you lose. I need to appeal with humility and urgency and humbly wait for the people's choice."
It has to be," he emphasized.
