”If I take sick leave, who will work?” 40% of South Korean employees cannot take paid leave
A survey has revealed that four out of ten South Korean employees are unable to take paid leave even when they become ill.
The company announced on the 25th that it had received these results from an online survey of 1,000 office workers aged 19 or older conducted between February 10 and 17.
According to this, 38.4% of respondents answered that they could not use paid leave if they got sick.
The percentage was only 16.5% for civil servants and public sector employees, but 46.8% for private businesses with fewer than five employees.
Of the 280 people who said they had contracted an infectious disease, about half (48.9%) said they were unable to take time off work.
80.6% of respondents agreed with the introduction of full sick pay. Sick pay is a system that allows workers to receive sick pay for injuries and illnesses that are not related to work.
The system compensates for the income of people who are unable to work due to illness so that they can focus on treatment.
Therefore, we must institutionally guarantee paid leave and sick pay."
